Volunteer Levy

Sports clubs, including Eastern Suburbs Hockey Club (ESHC), are run by and rely heavily on volunteers to maintain operations and enhance member experiences. However, attracting and retaining volunteers is a significant challenge. To address this, we have introduced a Volunteer Levy to improve volunteer engagement and support club activities.

This Levy is a change from the previously known “canteen levy” and now incorporates a number of volunteer positions within the club. Without volunteers our club and facility would not run each week.

This structure aims to balance financial contributions and active participation in club activities, ensuring fairness and sustainability. 

How it Works

A Volunteer Levy of $60 per player applies, with a maximum of three (3) levies per family.Volunteer Levy of $60 per player applies, with a maximum of three (3) levies per family.

 

To qualify for a refund, members must complete an approved volunteer role or activity for the season, or contribute a minimum of four (4) volunteer hours per player.

 

If a family pays more than one (1) Volunteer Levy (up to the maximum of three), and any family member completes a qualifying volunteer role, all Volunteer Levies paid by that family will be refunded.

 

Qualifying Volunteer Roles

·       Ratified Committee positions (including Executive positions and Committee Members)

·       Coaches, Team Managers, and Divisional Coordinators of any club team

 

Volunteering Activity

·       Canteen duty, with a minimum of four (4) volunteer hours required for each Volunteer Levy paid

·       Any additional volunteer activities approved by the Management Committee prior to completion

 

Additional Information

·       The Volunteer Levy must be paid as part of player registration.

·       Refunds are only issued once all required volunteer roles or hours have been completed.

Refund Process

If you are a coach, manager or committee member your fees will be credited at the start of the season.

For all other volunteer positions (Canteen Shift) a Volunteer Reimbursement form must be completed.

  • Complete volunteer work (min 4 hours per player or listed role).
  • Complete Volunteer Reimbursement Form.
  • Email to eastscafe@gmail.com or leave in canteen alongside Volunteer Shift Sign In sheet
  • Refunds will be processed every 4 weeks after Management Committee approval

Canteen Volunteer Allocations

All members are given the option to contribute to the running of ESHC. One way to do this is by volunteering in the canteen during the season. Members who complete a canteen shift are eligible to apply for a refund of the volunteer levy.

 

Volunteer Opt-In at Registration

  • At the time of registration, all members will be asked if they would like to complete a canteen shift during the season.
  • If you select “Canteen Duty”, you will:

- Be contacted at the start of the season to have preference on your allocated shift OR

- Have the option to nominate for a shift during a major club event, such as the Tiger Turf Cup 

  (shift  availability will be advertised closer to the event).


  • Once you have completed your shift, you may apply for a volunteer levy refund through the above process.


Shifts are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. If you cannot complete a shift, your levy will not be refunded

 

If you select No at time of registration your $60.00 volunteer levy will be used to pay paid volunteers (PV’s) to fill each shift.
