Summer Hockey Code of Conduct

  1. Be Kind – summer hockey is inclusive of all ages and level of skills. There will be people on the field who have never played before. Hockeyroo / Kookaburra selections are not happening during our summer season. Encourage and inspire new players to keep playing.
  2. Be Kind – the umpires are often younger people who are also learning and getting better. Yelling at them does not help and does not speak well of you.
  3. Be Kind – if everyone all around you is saying let it go – there is a reason, and you should let it go.
  4. Be Kind – don’t be the reason someone else feels bad about themselves. Be Kind – if sport were a movie, it would be rated ‘G’.
  5. Be Kind.

Senior Summer Hockey Rules

  1. This is a mixed social competition. Each senior team must have a minimum of five (5) females on the field at all times.
  2. Senior games are played in 2 x 25 minute halves.
  3. Players can be borrowed from another Easts Summer Hockey team for any games without approval.
  4. Junior players are welcome to play seniors however, consideration should be given to their skill level. Minimum age is 12 years old.
  5. There are no fully kitted goal keepers on the field.
  6. Scores are not kept for games in Summer Hockey.
  7. It is a social competition. The emphasis is on participation - particularly from non-hockey players and providing development opportunities to younger players while all players enjoy a social game of hockey.
  8. Playing the Ball:
  9. -                 Players must not Hit the ball, a Hit (which is not permitted in Sumer hockey) Striking or hitting the ball using a swinging movement of the stick towards the ball.

    -                 ‘Slap’ hitting the ball, which involves a long pushing or sweeping movement with the stick, on either the forehand or backhand, before making contact with the ball, is not permitted.

    -                 Players must not play the ball with the back of the stick.

    -                 The ball cannot be raised at any time

    1. Dangerous Play: Players must not play the ball dangerously or in a way which leads to dangerous play including:

    -                        When it causes legitimate evasive action by players or

    -                        Balls unintentionally rising from a player trapping or attempting to trap the ball should not be penalised unless another player is within playing distance of the ball.

    -                        When it is played such that it is lifted more than 30cm above the turf, or if it contacts another player where it would have been lifted more than 30cm above the turf.  This rule has no exception and will be applied even if the lift is a “shot on goal” or

    -                        If the ball is played deliberately and hard into an opponent’s stick, feet or hands with associated risk of injury when a player is in a ‘set’ or stationary position or;

    -                        When a players collecting, turning and trying to play the ball deliberately through a defending player who is either close to the player in possession or is trying to play the ball are both dangerous actions and should be dealt with under this Rule.

    -                        The penalty is awarded where the action causing the danger took place.

    10.   Penalty Corners & Penalty Stroke - Penalty Corners (PC) and Penalty Strokes (PS) are not played in Summer Hockey.  If an Offence occurs such that a PC or PS would have been awarded instead a Restart by the Attack on the 23m line will be awarded (Long Corner) with the following considerations;
